It has one large suite and two cabins, all with twin beds or queen bed and an ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower. The salon design incorporates high ceilings and large windows with plenty of natural light and panoramic views of the canal along with leather sofas, a dining area, and bar. The huge sun deck is perfect for relaxing in the sun loungers and jacuzzi or for alfresco dining.

Your gourmet meals are prepared on board by your private chef, except for one dinner in a gourmet Château restaurant and one in a typical Burgundian restaurant in a famous wine village.

Your English speaking crew includes the owners on board, Captain Max Renau and his wife Bea as chef. Max has more than 30 years experience in the French and European waterways and will share his knowledge with you also as your tour guide. The cruise highlights will include private wine tastings in world famous Burgundian wine cellars, a visit to the famous wine town of Beaune with its antique shops, and the world famous medieval hospital "Hospice de Beaune, " as well as a guided tour of Dijon and its famous covered market.

Special Places Travel owners Don and Sally visited the Wine & Water in the spring of 2014, and then again in 2015, and think it is a great addition to the barges we offer in Southern Burgundy.

Passenger Comments:

Idyllic Wine and Water Cruise

Superb adventure in every way. Our suite was excellent. The service was top notch - every need was met. The meals and wines were the very highest quality. The high points were Max, Bea and Johnnie, Wine, Food by Selby, walks and biking every day.

Our first barge trip. We can't imagine how it could be any better. Meals and wines were better than what was expected. New chef, Selby, did some wonderful things that brought raves from the group. Wines got better through the week. We cruised on a beautiful canal, but our only barge trip so nothing to compare it to. High points were great food, camaraderie, happy crew, and good friends to enjoy it all with. Max and Bea are fabulous hosts of the area, experts of Burgundy wine, and barging. We will return every year if we win the lottery.
C.&C.S., WY, USA, May 2016

This was my first barge trip, My wife had completed one 11 years earlier on Canal de Midi. Both of us thought that W&W is an exceptional barge experience. The warmth and genuine feeling of being welcomed by Bea and Max was extraordinary. The food was outstanding as were the wines (and the copious amounts of same). The physical layout of the barge was terrific as it allowed for room to have self time without feeling as if you were actually on a barge. Max's knowledge of the wineries and the historical information of the area made the excursions all the better. Max & Bea made for a trip that could only cause us to title it "We Were Spoiled Beyond Belief". Shelby did an outstanding job of cooking amazing meals that were tailored to our taste and desires of the day. Over the top would be a good title for the service onboard W&W. The meals and wines were excellent all the way around. Every morning there was fresh bread and croissants with yummy preserves, local honey fresh fruit and juice...lunches were wonderful with local cured meats and pates, salads, and wines. Dinners were gourmet treats... we had rabbit one night, scallops, lamb, all served with excellents sides. Selby is an amazing chef and accommodated us very well!! One night we even had some fresh sauteed fois gras... need we say more?? and again delicious wines flowing all the while...and then there were the desserts..... While life on the barge was unbelievable, one did need to get a touch of reality now and again. The excursions were very good and Max was a font of information in all cases. I personally found the wine/vineyard excursions the most informative. Historically, the trip to Beaune and Dijon were quite enlightening. I would highly recommend that barge goers participate in Max's trip.

SAMPLE ITINERARY*
Burgundy:
Canal de Bourgogne
Vandenesse to Dijon 2017

Sunday -  Vandenesse-en-Auxois
You will be met at the agreed meeting point and travel in air-conditioned comfort to Wine & Water, moored on the Canal de Bourgogne at Vandenesse-en-Auxois. Welcomed aboard by the captain and the crew with champagne, the tone will be set for your memorable cruise in Burgundy. You will have time to settle into your luxurious suite and explore the barge before your first candlelit dinner on board during which you will be introduced to regional specialties and local wines.

Monday - Vandenesse-en-Auxois to Pont d'Ouche

This morning is your first opportunity to enjoy the Burgundy countryside as Wine & Water glides along the Canal de Bourgogne. While you enjoy breakfast, we leave Vandenesse-en-Auxois and begin to pass through the first locks. Arriving in the village of Crugey at midday, the chef will enchant you with a typical Burgundy menu. After lunch, the voyage continues to Pont d'Ouche, where, after mooring, you will be driven to Beaune, an ancient walled town with a rich historical and architectural heritage, known as the wine capital of Burgundy. Wander along the cobbled streets lined with boutiques, antique shops and wine shops. Soak up the atmosphere in the old market (les Halles), or discover the Basilica Notre Dame with its Renaissance bell tower and 15th century tapestries. No visit to Beaune would be complete without a visit to the Hospices de Beaune. Built in 1443 as a hospital for the poor, care continued within its walls until 1970. This wonderful example of Gothic architecture comprises a stone courtyard, half-timbered galleries, turrets and ornate roofs with four-coloured glazed tiles, a trademark of Burgundian architecture. You will return to Wine & Water through the Hautes Côtes vineyards in time to dress for dinner in a fairy tale château, in a nearby tiny village.

Tuesday - Pont d'Ouche to Gissey sur Ouche

Today, you will pass through unique landscapes, as the canal meanders through the beautiful Ouche valley. You will cruise through the villages of La Bussière sur Ouche and Saint Victor to Gissey sur Ouche, one of the most charming villages along the canal. We moor here for the night in a hidden romantic spot beside the River Ouche and a Gallo-Roman bridge, one of the most photographed and painted views in the region. In the afternoon, you will visit the celebrated wine village of Aloxe-Corton, dominated by the Corton hill and famous for its red and white Grands Crus. Here, you will visit the Chateau de Corton André, the only castle of the Côte de Beaune in the grand cru appellation, for a wine tasting in cellars dating back to the 15th century before returning to Wine & Water for dinner on board.

Wednesday - Gissey sur Ouche to Fleurey sur Ouche
Your day will begin by cruising through the charming villages of Saint Marie sur Ouche and Pont de Pany, once a very important bread market, and then the historic village of Fleurey sur Ouche, known to have been occupied by man since the Stone Age. The village is noted for its traditional houses on narrow streets and Gallo-Roman ruins. Your on-shore excursion today is the renowned walled vineyard of Clos de Vougeot. Created by Cistercian monks in the 12th century, by the year 1336 it served as the leading vineyard of this prominent order. Your expedition will conclude with a private wine tasting at Gevrey Chambertin, the largest wine-producing village in Burgundy. Once back on board, you will be ready for another gourmet dinner.

Thursday - Fleurey sur Ouche to Plombières les Dijon
This morning's voyage will take you to Plombières les Dijon where you will disembark for a drive through the Route des Grands Crus vineyards of Burgundy. Your tour will culminate with a wine tasting at the Château de Marsannay, renowned not only for its exceptional red and white Burgundies, but also for some of the finest, most succulent rosé in France. This will be followed by a visit to the Fromagerie Gaugry, specialists in the production of washed rind soft cheeses, and the last cheese makers still producing raw milk Epoisses. Here, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the making of Burgundian cheeses and taste them for yourself. Don't forget to leave room for that wonderful dinner on board later, though!

Friday - Plombières les Dijon to Dijon

This morning the delights of Dijon await you. This city offers so much more than the eponymous mustard. Take a walk around the Les Halles market admiring the metal and glass architecture designed by Gustave Eiffel. Absorb the culture in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, one of France's oldest museums, which can be found within the stunning medieval centre. Here you will also find the elegant Palace of the Dukes. As you wander through the cobbled streets, don't forget to stroke La Chouette, the little owl carved on one of the pillars of the Notre Dame church, which is reputed to bring good luck. Returning for lunch on board, you will enjoy a lazy afternoon's cruise past Lac Kir to the southwest of Dijon. Wine & Water will then moor in the splendid 19th century Porte du Canal de Dijon where you will be offered cocktails before a final on-board Gala dinner.

Saturday - Dijon
You will enjoy one last breakfast on board before being taken to your designated drop off point.
