Cruise In France On The Canal du Bourgogne In Southern Burgundy And On The Canal Laterale A La Loire In The Upper Loire On The Deluxe Hotel-Barge APRES TOUT

BARGE CRUISES: SEVEN DAYS/SIX NIGHTS
The 6-passenger Apres Tout is a classic French barge which has been renovated to offer the most luxurious accommodation for six passengers. Tastefully and comfortably furnished, the salon and dining areas have large windows to view the outdoors while enjoying the Bose surround-sound system, satellite TV/DVD/CD or Ipod connection. There are three spacious staterooms and a separate library with a computer for guest use. Equal in size, the staterooms all have king-sized beds, which can be made up as twins if desired. Each cabin has a safe, satellite TV and DVD player. The ensuite bathrooms provide large walk-in showers and heated towel racks. The entire interior is beautifully light, enhanced by pale oak floors and skylights. The deck extends the full length of the barge, providing dining, spa pool and sun lounging areas. This is the perfect place for relaxing and taking in the spectacular vistas of the canal and countryside.

The owners of the Apres Tout, your hosts Captain Rory and Chef Caroline Macrae, would be delighted to welcome you on board with your friends or family. We have known Rory and Caroline for many years and always enjoy spending time on board with them, most recently in August 2015. Bringing over 20 years experience in luxury hotel barging to running their own vessel, Rory and Caroline ensure that their guests have a voyage exceeding all expectations. From behind the steering wheel, Rory will share his knowledge of the inland waterways while guests sit on comfy cushions and watch the countryside glide by. Caroline is a Cordon Bleu chef whose magnificent cuisine artistry passengers rave about. While preparing the next feast, she will share her recipes and secrets, while guests look on with a glass of wine. Your tour guide Julian has spent many years as a tour guide and captain of other hotel barges and loves to share his knowledge of France with guests during the daily excursions, along with his extensive knowledge of Burgundy wines. Rounding out the team is Nicole, your hostess, whose extensive experience in barging will ensure that you receive the very best care on board.

There is no better way to explore and enjoy the splendour of France than to gently cruise along her historic canals and rivers. The owners have chosen Southern Burgundy for you to enjoy the wonderful gourmet meals and fabulous wines during a week-long cruise through the classic Burgundy wine region (Cote d'Or, Clos de Vougeot, lunch at Gevrey Chambertin with private tour, Beaune, dinner at the Abbaye de la Bussiere). Whatever your interests are -- in wine, food, history, cycling, golfing, art, antiques, shopping, they will create a customized itinerary to suit your requirements. Magical days and nights cruising on board the Après Tout on the Burgundy Canal ... join them for an experience in France that will create memories that will last a lifetime. An alternate cruise route on the Saone River from St Jean de Losne to Lyon may be offered upon request. Sunday - After transfer to Nevers, moor in Pont Canal de Guétin
This afternoon you will be picked up by our tour guide and transferred to the Apres Tout which is moored on the Canal Lateral a la Loire in the port of Nevers. The crew will welcome you on board with a wonderful champagne reception followed by an afternoon cruise towards the Pont de Guetin. Caroline, your Corden Bleu trained chef, will be busy preparing your first dining experience on board accompanied by some of our selected fine wines.

Monday - Visit the stunning village of Aprémont. Cruise to Marseilles les Aubigny
After a relaxing breakfast of fresh pastries, fruits, yogurts and bread or a hearty cooked breakfast for those who prefer something hot, our tour guide transfers you to Aprémont. This is reputed to be one of the most beautiful villages in France, nestling on the banks of the River Allier. Take time to enjoy the amazing gardens and the atmosphere of this charming village steeped in history. During the middle ages its prosperity came from the activity of local quarry men who transported by barge the cut stones used to build the Cathedral of Orleans and the Abbaye of St Benoit sur Loire. Return to the Apres Tout for a leisurely lunch as Rory get the ropes off and cruises to Marseilles le Aubigny for tonight's overnight mooring. Perhaps enjoy a pre-dinner stroll in this small village.

Tuesday - Cruise to Herry. Visit Château de Tracy

During the morning the barge continues to cruise along this peaceful canal to the mooring at Herry. After lunch your guide takes you to the magnificent Château de Tracy set in the rolling hills of Pouilly-Fumé. We have arranged for a private visit to their cellar for tasting wine directly from the barrels and then finish with a wine and goat cheese tasting overlooking the Loire from their estate. Return to the boat for a drink or two on the deck followed by another sumptuous meal from Caroline's kitchen.

Wednesday - Cruise towards Menetrol. Visit to Chavignol, lunch and Sancerre
Start the morning with breakfast and then transfer to Chavignol, famed for its production of fine Sancerre wines and the locally producted "Crotin de Chavignol" goat's cheese. We visit the Domain Henri Bourgeois before enjoying lunch at the family's bistro "La Côte des Monts Damnes." After lunch take a leisurely stroll through the meandering streets of the impressive hilltop medieval town of Sancerre, with its stunning views of the surrounding countryside, situated on an impressive hilltop west of the waterway.

Thursday - Cruise to Lere. Visit Château of Saint Fargeau
Rory is busy preparing the boat and breakfast is served as we start our cruise onward towards Lere. After a light lunch of meats and lots of salads and of course, cheese, your guide transfers you to the charming village of Saint Fargeau. This remarkable Château was once the home to "La Grande Mademoiselle," cousin of Louis XIV who exiled her to this property early in his reign. We have a private visit through the rafters of the Château and learn about its fascinating history.

Friday - Visit the market in Briare and Faience in Gien. Cruise to Briare
This morning we visit the bustling market town of Briare, situated on the Loire river at the junction of the Canals de Briare and Lateral a la Loire, joined by this impressive canal bridge which we will cruise over this afternoon. Spend time at the open air market surrounding the highly decorative Eglise St Etienne de Briare. Continue to Gien to visit a faience factory. The china of Gien is renowned for its colour and design – we have special permission to walk through the design area and see painters at work. Return to the barge for lunch and a truly memorable cruise crossing over this stunning bridge to our final destination at the port of Briare. The crew will toast your week with us tonight with a special dinner to celebrate a most wonderful week.

Saturday - Disembark for your onward journey
Enjoy one final breakfast on board before continuing your journey!

Note: The day to day itinerary described is a typical cruise. However, on any one cruise the mooring may change and the places visited may vary depending on the season and guest preferences.

It was the most wonderful, luxurious vacation we've ever had. The accommodations were First Class - the food was a true culinary extravaganza, and the crew was top notch. We were pampered, and our every wish came to be!

There were so many high points of the cruise week, but we really enjoyed the jeep ride through the vineyard and the "blind" wine tasting/lunch at the vineyard. Both were a lot of fun. Nick worked hard at teaching us how to appreciate the wines of the area.

FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!! Beyond our expectations. The barge was beautiful, spotless, comfortable, and staffed with the most wonderful people. Rory, Caroline, Nick, and Hannah were THE BEST. We can't think of a thing they could have improved upon. The food was out of this world, the excursions were interesting and fun, and the crew were professional while also being warm and welcoming. We would recommend this trip to everyone! We feel it was the trip of a lifetime. The service from SPT was EXCELLENT!!!! From first contact to last, our information was complete, in fact, most times it exceeded our specific questions and anticipated our next question! Everyone was friendly, very responsive and helpful.

The cabins were great...like a hotel. All needs anticipated with great attention to detail. Meals were outstanding and wines were excellent. Highpoints were lunch at domain Drouhin Larouche and private wine tasting at Joseph Drouhin. Cooking lessons with Caroline. Guided tours of Dijon and Hospice du Beaune with Nick.
    J.& D L., NC, USA, July 2014

It was outstanding! Far exceeded our expectations! Rory, Caroine, Hannah and Nick were absolutely fabulous! The boat is exceptionally beautiful and spacious. They made the trip very personal for us~ Chuck and I were able to go Go-Carting, and Rory let me try to "bring in the big one" on our last night, but he got away! We loved our fellow passengers, whom we did not know prior to the trip! We loved all of our excursions and learned so much! The countryside was beautiful. We had perfect weather. Caroline was the BEST chef ever! The food was light as it was very warm when we were there. The wine pairings were phenomenal. Nick gave a great presentation for the history of the wines. It was fantastic to follow up with wines of vineyards that we visited and have them with our meals! All in all, our best trip ever!
