Riquewihr is a miraculously preserved village built in the Middle Ages and basically unchanged in layout and structure. The inhabitants have not changed much through the centuries.  Their lives still revolves around shopkeeping and wine making. 

Riquewihr has retained much of its medieval fortification and a castle.  Here is the 80 feet high Porte de Dolder.

At every turn there are beautiful structures from the medieval times, perfectly preserved.

The village is surrounded by the vines.  Wine is everything to Riquewihr.

You would not expect to find a Christmas decoration shop in a wine village.

However Riquewihr has one of the most beautiful Christmas shops to be found anywhere.
