Strasbourg
Strasbourg, France is one of the most important cities in Europe. This city, with close to a million people in the greater Strasbourg area including the Eurodistrict, is the heart of the EU. It is the world center for the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights, the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines, the Europcorps as well as the European Parliament. The city center is actually an island surrounded by two branches of the Ill River. The city can trace is first human occupation back 600,000 years ago. Neolithic, bronze age and iron age artifacts have been uncovered in the city through various archeological excavations. Strasbourg center has been classified a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
